Security in storage is mostly not about locks. It is about knowing exactly what went in, being able to prove it, and controlling who can get near it — and those are the parts that are hardest to see from a website. Here is how it works inside self storage in Dubai as we run it.
Every item is logged on an itemised inventory signed at collection, so there is a written record of what you handed over before anything leaves your property. That document is what makes a dispute a five-minute conversation rather than two people remembering differently.
Goods are stored indoors, racked off the floor, in a facility where multi-angle CCTV covers every corridor, entry point, loading area and storage zone, and where nobody reaches the storage area without being let in.
The four things that actually keep goods safe
In roughly the order they matter, which is not the order most storage marketing puts them in.
Controlled access
There is no public access to the storage floor. Visits are booked, and your items are pulled and made ready before you arrive.
Camera coverage
Multi-angle CCTV across corridors, entries, loading areas and storage zones — including the loading bay, which is where handling actually happens.
Indoors and racked
Goods off the floor inside a covered warehouse. This protects against water and pests as much as against heat.
What we deliberately do not claim
Three things, because the absence of a number is more useful to you than an invented one.
We do not publish a CCTV retention period. This site previously carried two different figures on two different pages, which is worse than none. The coverage is real; the retention window is a facility question we would rather answer accurately on request than guess at in marketing copy.
We do not quote an insurance cover level here. Storage insurance sets out exactly what is and is not covered, and tells you to get the current position in writing before booking. An invented liability figure is a commercial promise the business would be held to.
We do not describe this as a unit you hold a key to. You do not. Goods are stored in a managed warehouse and access is arranged. Some operators blur this; it is the single biggest expectation gap in the industry and we would rather set it straight before you book than after.

Listed at your property — The crew itemises as it wraps. You see the list before it is signed.

Signed by both sides — You get a copy. It is the reference for everything that follows.

Logged to a location — Items are recorded against where they are racked, which is what makes a partial retrieval quick.

Checked out on the way back — Retrievals are picked against the same list, so what leaves the warehouse is what you asked for. Normally 24–48 hours, all of it or part.
What you can do that helps most
Photograph anything valuable before it is wrapped, and keep the photographs with the inventory copy. It takes five minutes and it is the single most useful thing a customer can do.
Declare high-value items rather than hiding them in a carton. Art, antiques, instruments, jewellery, specialist equipment and anything with a serial number should be named on the quote so it is handled and recorded appropriately. Quietly boxing a valuable item is the opposite of protecting it.
Keep irreplaceable documents with you — passports, Emirates ID, title deeds, tenancy contracts. Storage is for things you can wait 24 to 48 hours for.
And be specific about what is fragile. “Fragile” written on every box means nothing by the tenth box; telling the crew which three items genuinely need care means those three get it. If you are storing across a summer, climate controlled storage covers the environmental half of keeping things intact.
Common questions
Because of the inventory. Every item is logged against your booking at collection on a list you sign, and racked against a recorded location. Retrievals are picked against that same list rather than from memory.
Ask us and we will tell you the current retention position for the facility. We deliberately do not publish a figure, because this site previously carried two contradictory ones and an inaccurate security claim is worse than no claim.
Only someone you have authorised in writing for that booking. Tell us the name in advance; the crew will not release goods to someone who simply turns up and knows your name.
Get the current cover position from us in writing before you book, and declare anything high-value so it is addressed on your quote rather than assumed. The insurance page explains what we can and cannot state.
Goods are stored on racking in a managed warehouse rather than in an individual lockable unit, so there is nothing to put a lock on. If a personal lock is important to you, a self-storage yard is a better fit than this service.
The warehouse is closed and monitored outside operating hours, with no public access to the storage floor at any time. Existing customers can arrange access outside normal hours on request rather than by arriving.
