Climate Controlled Storage in Dubai
In most cities climate control is an upgrade. In Dubai it is the difference between getting your furniture back and getting a lesson in what 48°C does to veneer, and it is standard on every booking in self storage in Dubai rather than a tier you select.
Goods are stored indoors in a covered, managed warehouse and racked off the floor — not in a yard, not in a shipping container, and not under a shade structure. Those three are what most cheap storage in this region actually is, and in July they are ovens.
The rate is the same AED 12.65 per sq ft per month, VAT included, whether you are storing a sofa or a server. There is no climate-controlled surcharge because there is no non-climate-controlled option to compare it against.
What a Dubai summer actually does
Peak air temperature is the headline, but it is not the mechanism. What damages stored goods here is the combination of sustained heat, coastal humidity, and the daily cycle between the two.
Wood and veneer. Sustained heat softens the adhesives used in veneered and laminated furniture. Panels lift at the edges, joints loosen, and a dining table that was fine in May comes back in October with a corner peeling. This is the single most common heat damage we see, and it happens in containers and yards rather than in a covered warehouse.
Upholstery and fabric. Dubai's coastal humidity plus still, warm air is the condition mould needs. Sofas, mattresses, curtains and rugs stored unwrapped in a hot space can bloom within weeks, and the smell does not come out.
Electronics. Heat cycling is worse for a device than steady heat. Condensation forms inside a cool casing when warm humid air reaches it, and it forms exactly where you do not want it. Batteries left in devices are the other half of this problem, and they leak.
Paper and photographs. Documents yellow and become brittle; photographs stick together; ink migrates. Anything you are storing because it is irreplaceable is the category most exposed to this.
Candles, cosmetics and vinyl. These simply melt or warp. It sounds trivial until it happens inside a carton of things that were not going to melt.

What you should do before storing over a Dubai summer
Six things that take ten minutes and prevent most of what goes wrong.
- Take every battery out. Leaked alkaline ruins more stored electronics in this climate than heat does.
- Empty and fully dry appliances — washing machines, kettles, fridges. Residual water plus a sealed warm space is the recipe for the smell people describe on return.
- Do not store candles, aerosols, cosmetics or anything wax-based. Some of these are also on the prohibited items list for safety reasons rather than heat.
- Cover mattresses properly rather than with a sheet, and store them flat.
- Put photographs and documents in sealed plastic boxes rather than cardboard.
- Tell us if you are storing a musical instrument, art or anything else with a specified environmental requirement, so it is addressed on the quote rather than assumed.
What to be sceptical about
“Climate controlled” is close to meaningless as a marketing phrase in this market, because it is applied to everything from a fully conditioned indoor facility to a warehouse with a roof and a large fan. Both are described the same way in an advert.
The questions worth asking any operator, including us: is the storage area indoors and covered, are goods racked off the floor, and are they wrapped before transport or after arrival. Those three answers tell you more than the phrase does.
The second thing worth asking is whether the vehicle is part of the claim. Goods that are climate controlled at the warehouse and then sit in an unshaded truck in an August loading bay for two hours have not been protected. That is why we wrap at your property and load directly.

Yes. Take the batteries out of everything, keep the original box if you still have it, and tell the crew so the item is racked rather than stacked under something. Screens should be stored upright, never flat with weight on them.
Solid wood brought from a cooler climate does move in its first year here regardless of where it is stored — that is the wood adjusting, not damage. What indoor storage prevents is the separate problem of veneer and laminate adhesive failing in sustained heat.
Stored flat in a proper cover, in an indoor covered space, yes. Stored on edge, or wrapped in a bedsheet in a hot space, less so — those are the two things that produce the complaints.
